Birthday Celeb I

I would like to thank my frens who have always make time to celeb my "wiser by the year" day.
As usual, I always have to think of shedding the extras gained during the 2-3 weeks of feasting. :) So sinful & guilty!!!

Petals & Leaves (19/10/08)

It started to rain when we reached the cafe.
It was a long ride into Neo Tiew Cresc.

We like the rustic ambience.

Snack of the Day ~ onion rings

Soup of the Day ~ Chic Soup
tasty though kinda diluted

Chic Chop in mushroom sauce
~ portion was generous,
~ meat was tender and tasty

Special of the Day
~ Fried Olive Rice
- rice was fragrant & fluffy, served with crispy chic wing

Signature Fish & Chips
~ portion was generous
~ fish batter was crispy
~ love the fries

Dinner @ Seah St Deli (18/10/08)

Cotton Club
~ love the fries
~ breast meat was not my liking

Stews of the Month
~ Veal Shank

~ tender & tasty meat

Desserts ~

Big apple pecan with vanilla
~ still miss the sinful choc cake

Forest berries sherbet

Dinner @ Inagiku (15/10/08) and Lunch @ Inagiku (18/10/08)

It was a pity that I accidentally deleted 21 photos taken at Inagiku.
Inagiku has been my fav hunt for Jap food esp when they serve their special menus according to the 4 seasons of the year.

For dinner, we had Yose Nabe (seafood hotpot) as well as the Kai tempura set. We were guilty that we could not finish the hotpot. The pleasant surprise was when we were served green tea choc after settling the bill. The green tea choc was awesome, but not on sale :(

For lunch, we chose the Business set lunch and Nabeyaki Udon. The set lunch consisted of chawanmushi, assorted sashimi, grilled eel, rice. The highlight was the simmered pork in miso soup, which was very tender and fine. We were adventurous to try the Wasabi Cherry Sherbet. I would prefer their Mango Sherbet which was seasonal as it was flown from Japan. I was looking forward to tasting their awesome green tea choc again.

Seafood Paradise @ Flyer (12/10/08)

Seafood Paradise has been our regular hunt for crabs.

Stir-fry asparagus

Honey-baked ribs
~ our first taste
~ tasty and sweet
~ meat was tender though I would prefer not to chew into soft bones

Mee goreng
~ yellow noodle is not my choice
~ my cousin's regular order

Our first attempt at their Signature White Pepper Crab
~ not much impact on my taste buds

Our regular choice
~ creamy butter crab
~ sinful yet mouth-watering
We realised that each order tasted differently during each of our visits. We appreciate the cooking consistency at their Defu outlet.

Wood Restaurant & Bar (04 Oct 08)

I was invited to dine at Wood Restaurant & Bar for the launch of La Mer Hydrating Infusion. This being my first visit to Wood, I was quite impressed with the set-up and ambience for the product launch. As we were early, the service staff was ready to serve us choice of cold drinks while waiting for other guests to arrive.

Efforts were made to customise the table mat with La Mer Logo. The handles of the cutlery were customised to resemble bark rings or branches.

I enjoyed the Foccacia Bread with its tinge of herbs and salt. It was delicious. The starter was Salmon Carpaccio with veg terrine. The salmon has a tinge of smoky taste but the veg was bitter. Too much pesticides??

Soup was Wild Mushroom and the mushroom was finely blended.

There were 3 choices of main - Cedar plank roasted salmon, shitake and enoki truffle crust or Grilled Sakura chicken with lemongrass, shallots and parsley or Chilled soba noodles with condiments.

My choice of main was the roasted salmon, which was served on a cedar plank. The crust was strong with mushroom flavor, which was tasty and I could taste the different mushrooms used.

Though the salmon may looked dry on the outside, but it was moist, juicy and tender on the inside.

Dessert was Lychee and mint granite with framboise jelly. It was refreshing and pleasant on the taste buds. The granite was actually crushed ice. :)

MELT ~ The World Cafe @ The Mandarin Oriental

I had the opportunity to participate in the new Ch 8 Buffet Buffet program, which introduces value-for-money buffets in Spore.

I had the privilege of reviewing the popular dinner buffet at MELT ~ The World Cafe ($70++)

Seafood Paradise ~ cant resist the varieties of fresh & succulent seafood avail. Looking at the platter is enough to distract u from counting your cholestrols.

The fresh Boston Lobsters are enough to cover your buffet cost. Not forgetting the fresh & juicy scallops as well as the fresh oysters. Every item here was like jus fresh from the ocean!!!

Luscious fresh scallops, prawns & mussels

Japanese Cuisine ~
Besides the irresistable seafood, the sashimi was also fresh & professionally cut to the right size and thickness. The Japanese Chef was at the counter to provide fresh cuts of salmon, yellow tail & tuna. Even the rice grain for the sushi was simply perfect, in texture and body.

Roast platter; seafood noodle

Cantonese Cuisine ~
The uniqueness of this counter - food was prepared from their Chinese restaurant - Cherry Garden. The roast meat platter was flavorsome - roast pork has crispy skin and was not fatty, char siew was dulcet and roasted to the temperature.

The stock of the seafood noodle was rich, with generous servings of fish slices, prawns, seaweed & veggie. A healthy choice too!

As I had to save some space for the dessert, I went easy on other food - papadum, prawn salad, yam rice, thai salted egg fried rice, grilled sea bass and thai fish-cake.

I enjoyed the yam rice, with some tinge of burnt flavor from the high fire cooking.

Dessert Lovers
One cant resist the many varieties of desserts, professionally displayed in special chillers. The thought of the drawers of desserts avail is enough to salivate!!!

Creme brulee was cripsy on the top and silky on the inside.

The waffle of the town!!! Each piece is freshly made and cut in an appropriate size, so that u can experiment with more servings, with the many varieties of toppings avail. I chose the Movenpick lime sorbet, which was refreshing and citrus enough to wash down the heavy meal.

Eaten on its own, the waffle was cripsy and buttery flavored. Which was why I had a second helping without any toppings. Yum yum.... it was mouth watering jus thinking of the waffle!!!

Drinks were not included in the buffet but we sampled 3 connoctions and the lychee green tea was refreshing and blands well in taste.

(L) Refreshing Mint Lime

(R) Fresh Rock Melon Juice

Lychee Green Tea
~ unique bland

Peach Blossom @ Marina Mandarin

Dim dum buffet @ Peach Blossom

Unique tea pot set that keeps the tea hot.

So cool !!!

Started the buffet with corn soup and watercress soup
Corn soup was unappetising.

Prawn dumplings with chestnut served in a nice glass.
Prawn was fresh & succulent

Limited to 1 serving per table - Homemade tofu with oats & chilli padi, marinated duck wings

Limited to 1 serving per table
- deep fried sea perch

Steam yam cake

Pan-fried flour roll

Xiao long bao - juicy but those from Din Tai Fung were better.

Dumpling with melon & black fungus

Bacon with cheese - unique presentation but the deep-fried skin affects the taste.

Most satisfying food from the menu - mango pomelo with nice dry-ice presentation - similar to Hua Ting's bubur hitam presentation.
