KL (17/05 - 19/05)

Day 1 Lunch @ Golden Palace Seafood Restarant

As we were not hungry and were looking forward to our spa treatment, we decided to go easy on lunch.
- steam cod fish dumpling

Fois gras dumpling soup - quite a creative tim sum. However, could not draw out the taste of the fois gras. Maybe it's asian fois gras?? :)

Crispy suckling pig noodle in Lobster stock. There was choice of other roasted meats besides the sucking meat, with the noodle.

Day 2 Lunch @ Amarin Thai @ Mid Valley

We could not decide what to have for lunch as there were too many choices. We decided to have a 6-course set with free flow of ice lemon tea. The service was impressive as well as the setting of the restaurant. We started with the assorted appetitisers which comprised of 5 types- spring roll, prawn roll, money bag, thai fish cake and another type of fish cake. Piping hot clear tom yum soup was next. We were expecting the 'potent' clear soup that would be spicy hot, but we still could cope with the spiciness.

The steam fish was impressive with the various spices that they used and it was fresh too.

There were too many dishes to distract us - vegetables, seafood with egg

Finally, the set lunch ended with an assortment of Thai dessert. There was a choice of mango sticky rice, steamed tapioca and bananas. Each tasted great with the coconut milk which was very fresh. The staffs were generous to give us extra servings of the coconut milk as well as topping up our free flow of ice lemon tea. The homemade ice lemon tea was refreshing and citrus that it can help in digesting the heavy lunch that we had. We enjoyed the food at Amarin very much and were impressed by their service too. We will visit the Thai restaurant again if we travel to KL Mid Valley.

Seafood Paradise @ Defu (12 Apr 08)

We started our 5-course dinner with the refreshing and appetitising Wasabi & Mayo Prawns
Seafood broth was served in the tradional bowl instead of in a young coconut. The texture of the soup here is lighter than the one served at the Flyer. The Baked Lobster with Salted Egg Yolk is bigger than those served at the Flyer. My personal taste preference is it was more tasty here than the Flyer.
We added their specialty - Broccoli with scallops & egg white - like the egg white which was smooth Ee Fu with Crab Meat was also from the ala carte menu. As we over-ordered, the noodle was 'da-bao' instead, which I didnt get to taste.
Seafood Supreme fried rice was included in the set - like the fragrance of the rice as well as the color which made it so appetising! Rice grain was firm and tasty too.
Crab with glass noodle was from the ala carte menu too. The stock was rich and the glass noodle was smooth and tasty from the rich stock. Crab was fresh and succulent. We tried very hard to finish the glass noodle as we were filled almost to the brim. Too greedy of us to have ordered so much food for 3.

We finished the heavy meal with Mango Pomelo - which is one of my favourite desserts. However, I was not impressed with the Mango Pomelo.

Seafood Paradise @ Flyer (6 Apr 08)

Yakult Rainforest Discovery @ Flyer - impressive view, close to nature amidst the concrete jungleOur 5-course set dinner commenced with the Prawns with fruit cocktail - refreshing to whet your appetite
Followed by the Seafood broth in young coconut - nourishing
The highest cholestrol of the meal - Baked Lobster with salted egg yolk - very tasty & the flavors blended well - think about the calories later!
Another yum yum - Ee Fu with South African Abalone - some spices in the noodle. Abalone was tender and bites easily

Finally, wash the meal down with Aloe Vera with lemonade - a refreshing drink.

Vietnamese Food at Ben Thanh Market (HCM) (29/04 - 03/05)

Day 2 - My Tho
It was a wet weather day, with floods on most roads. It took us almost 3 hrs to 'battle' the rain before we arrive at this Restaurant for a 8-course lunch. We had the deep fried spring roll as well as the self-rolled rice paper roll. The fish is the specialty - deep fried elephant ear fish. The golden ball that u see above impressed me most. The waitress cut the crispy golden ball and served it with the sticky glutinous rice that was found at the base of the ball. The taste was great! It can also go with the grilled pork in special sauce. I miss the taste of the crispy golden ball with the sticky glutinous rice. Dun think I can find this in Spore.
The seafood served were fresh - prawns, fish.
While leaving the Restaurant, we chanced upon their locals who ordered this interesting prawns that were cooked 'live' in a coconut (below).

Day 1 - Tea cum Dinner cum Supper
Dinner was a healthy choice of pho with lots of green (above) and grilled pork in sauce soup (below). The pho was served by weight. The pork looked drenched in oily sauce, but the sauce was tasty and not oily.

After some brisk walking & window shopping, we decided to drop by the popular bakery cafe - Tous Les Jours - for some delicious pasteries - walnut cheesy bun, apple bun and tiramisu.
Having tasted the delicious pasteries, our next destination was Quan An Ngon, located at 138 Nam KY Khoi Nghia, D1. This Viet Restaurant is highly reputable with tourists as well as the locals. As we were there after 9pm, most of the food on the menu were sold out, except beef items. Sigh.... We only sampled the prawn pho (above) and the rice cake with chicken wing (below) This completed our Day 1 meals.
